A flying humanoid that lives in the clouds of Doegum. Magic comes naturally to these creatures. They are quite powerful and are most well known for effecting the weather and winds on the surface below, and protecting Doegum from the many asteroids that fall out of its Ring.

They live in cities of condensed cloud in Doegum's atmosphere. Because they live so far into the atmosphere, Avians developed strong lungs in order to extract enough oxygen to survive. Their skin is very tan and their hair is bleached white-blonde because they are always subjected to the sun's rays. They usually indulge in fruits, seeds, and nuts, and, provided they can find any, they will occasionally hunt for insects. However, no edible food grows in Avian cities, so they are forced to trade with the Terrans in order to obtain it. In exchange for the Terran farmers' crops, the Avians promise favorable weather conditions during the Lightening.

Avians have the unique ability to control the weather. They can manipulate the winds, water vapor, rain, sunlight, etc. At birth, Avians are not able to control their power. Young Avians may accidentally cause storms or other severe weather conditions, so their schools are constructed above the dreaded Trivalia to avoid any damage to the Terran farmers' crops.

The Avians evolved into three different races-Hexapotas, Chiroteras, and Vogels-by magical mutations. (Or, according to the Avians' religious beliefs, they were formed in several different races on the day of their creation.) The Avians created a central city called Cumulus. They created a direct democracy to govern their society. Their architecture is beautiful and elegant.

Chirotera - Chiroteras evolved from bat-like creatures. Their wings are made of thin membranes that can tear if stretched too far. They have long, slender fingers which can be bent backward at the wrist to make it easier to fold their wings and thumbs which act as hooks. They have some trouble writing , but manipulating wind and water vapor to move their cloud cities to follow the sunlight during the periods of the Lightening.

Hexapota - Hexapotas evolved from insect-like creatures on Doegum. Their wings are transparent, very small, and often twitch and flutter nervously. They can be extended out toward the hand or folded back toward the shoulder because of a special joint near the elbow. The Hexapotas' features are generally sharper than those of Chiroteras or Vogels. Also, because these Avians have more mobility of their hands and arms, Hexapotas generally use their magic to help construct buildings and are often referred to as Tinkers.

Vogel - Vogels are more elegant in nature than other Avian races. They evolved from bird-like creatures, so their wings are made from long, lightweight feathers starting at the shoulders and extending toward the wrist. Vogels have a better sense of sight than Chiroteras or Hexapotas. They often hold government jobs and are also responsible for conducting trade with the Terrans.
