In the beginning of
Doxas'Olum, the
Niveus Glacier was situated in the north where the
Silva Forest currently stands. Slowly moving south, it created the
Templum Mountains and the
Calidus Flatlands before it finally settled in its current location. Because of this shift in terrain and climate, many changes were put into motion.
The
Gamal'Dags, a society of mages, lived in the area of the
Calidus Flatlands. With the drastic shift in climate caused by the overuse of extreme magic came a mass exodus into the mountains for shelter. The community founds the city of
Veneficus, but disagreements begin to create different factions. Many began to oppose their magic oriented roots and migrated to the
Silva Forest. Slowly, they further traveled to the coast, where the city of
Nundinae was founded in 23 AIA, where remnants of those still loyal to the ideals of the
Gamal'Dags also lived. The various groups coexisted peacefully there, but a few began to further separate themselves from the mages and went inland, building the city of
Tractus in 200 AIA as a haven for those who wished to completely expell the use of magic.
As these cities established themselves, the comet
Falsathur appeared and remained for eight weeks in 253 AIA. During this time, it was discovered that the inherent magic of the mages was greatly weakened.
Veneficus thus weakened, the Tractans staged an attack against the city to annihilate the mages inside.
The Brotherhood, the most powerful sect of mages within
Veneficus came out of hiding to meet the
Tractans in order to conceal their city. Many of the mages were wiped out, and with the departure of
Falsathur, the surviving mages pushed the
Tractans out of the mountains and back into the confines of
Tractus. The death toll on both sides was too catastrophic for them to risk war again. The tension and lack of contact between the two cities led to the growing myth of
Veneficus.
The cities of
Nundinae and
Tractus began to engage in a regular trading pattern the created a stable economical relationship between them. Some people began to migrate out of the cities and into the
Calidus Flatlands, where they established a monopoly on agriculture for the surrounding city-states. These three regions coexist peacefully and remain unaware of the mysterious
Veneficans, who eventually segregated themselves from the other cultural groups.
In 1076 AIA,
Tractus experienced a major shift in the form of rebellion, changing their government from castes to clans. Steampower was developed in
Tractus in 1457 AIA before it traveled to
Nundinae. The present day is 1542 AIA.
